Sheelagh Caygill

Sheelagh has been writing for decades, and began writing poetry first. Three of her poems were published in Ontario in the Wee Giant and Mamashee publications.

On her website, Sheelagh is exploring how childhood emotional trauma can affect and impact a writer's creative practice, and would like to hear from people in the creative arts who have had similar experiences.

Sheelagh originally trained as a journalist and has worked for media outlets in Canada and the U.K.

She advises creative writers: "If you're a journalist and want to write creatively, begin your writing immediately; don't confine it to an unspecified date in the future. Move between the forms to be consciously aware of the different demands and skills required for each. This way, when you switch to creative writing, you won't struggle to write lyrically and with colour."

Sheelagh has a BA in history and politics and is taking an MA in Contemporary Creative Writing at Northeastern University London. She creates websites and podcasts for writers and lives in Canada.
